Max Lucado Fearless

Fearless by Max Lucado

For some reason everyday seems to bring a new reason to live our lives in fear; layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, health care concerns, swine flu, terrorism and many more things.

Being a person who worries and frets over hundreds of things I can’t control this book gave me encouragement and great biblical teaching to help me see that fear at its purest state is based on my lack of faith in God.

Below are some of the quotes that hit me the hardest:

Fear creates a form of spiritual amnesia. It dulls our miracle memory. It makes us forget what Jesus has done and how good God is.

Fear may fill our world, but it doesn’t have to fill our hearts.

Worry is the darkroom where negatives become glossy prints.

Seek first the kingdom of wealth, and you’ll worry over every dollar.  Seek first the kingdom of health, and you’ll sweat every blemish and bump. Seek first the kingdom of popularity, and you’ll relive every conflict. Seek first the kingdom of safety, and you’ll jump at every crack of the twig. But seek first his kingdom, and you will find it. On that, we can depend and never worry.

I love the use of scripture and applications that showed up in this book.  I would strongly recommend this book for anyone that wants to be rescued from a life of worry.

To all those who like free music

As many of us are getting ready to go to Rock the Light this weekend. I have two great websites that give out free Christian music and videos.
  • The first website is www.itickets.com . Once you register each week (starting on Tuesday) they giveaway 1-3 song per week. Songs like Chris Tomlin, Mark Schultz, I AM Terrified, and John Reuben to name a few.
  • The second website is www.videorocket.com . Just like above sign up but this website gives way a free christian music video. They are very high quality and would be useful for youth groups, or just someone wanting video on their iphone.
Hope you enjoy this free Wednesday update...check back next wednesday for a new freebie and website suggestion.

Blog Review of The New Testament [expanded] Bible.

This week I received the [Expanded] Bible in the mail from Thomas Nelson Publishing.

I believe this Bible is a study Bible for pastors and leaders so they can have a better understanding of the translation.

This Bible is unique in nature as it doesn't have maps, devotional, and other study material along the sides or in the back of the bible like most bibles today...instead this bible has it commentary concordance and other information in brackets inside the verse. As in example: All the bold is the actual scripture.

1 Corinthians 13:12 Now we see a dim [obscure or indirect] reflection, as if we were looking into a mirror [through a glass darkly] but then we shall see clearly [face to face].

I wanted to explore this Bible so I turned to Ephesians and began to read it. As i began to read it was very challenging to keep the bold type and the brackets separate in my mind. The more I tried to focus on the bold type my eyes kept coming back to the brackets. I believe this Bible has some really good study tools, but where they are placed makes it very hard to study and learn the scripture. This is not a Bible that I would give to a new believer or a student.

I think this Bible will be a very durable and useful Bible for Pastors or other church leaders. If you are looking for Bible that clear to read I would suggest looking else where...if you are looking for a Bible to help you lead a class or preach a sermon this Bible could be very useful.

On behalf of my whole family we want to thank the Wyandotte County Christian Church family for their help this past week moving our family to Bonner Springs. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate all your hard work, dedication and support for us during this moving process. We are so blessed to have a great new church family. We will never stop thinking of ways to repay you for your generosity.

I hope the unpacking goes as well as the moving did...that will be a continual work in progress.

Again thanks to everyone who helped out this weekend.

I love that there is Chick-fil-a not far from our house. This song from Tim Hawkins is how our family feels about Chick-fil-a....two words waffle fries. Hope you enjoy
